LAND / SEAS / SUN

2022

Exhibited as part of ÖRES summer exhibition, 2022
Örö island, Finland.

Exhibited in a new configuration (is)land as part of METAMORPHOSIS: Innovations in Eco Photography and Film, 2024
Saatchi, London.

Living on the remote island of Örö during an artist residency, we navigated and oriented ourselves using the sun and sea. This installation invited audiences to experience the landscape through pinhole photographs that were generated by these bodies. This work examines the material links between photographic materials, landscapes and how these landscapes are used and engaged with by human and nonhumans.

This series of pinhole photographs is made on direct posotive paper, developed in photographic developer made from left over tea leaves.  The prints were fixed in homemade photographic fixer, made with salt evaporated from the Baltic sea surrounding Örö.

This was an experiment into making photographic works using the limited resources of the island. In collaboration with Hannah Fletcher.
