Returning the Gaze

These works are a series of self portraits made using wet plate collodion, a 19th century photographic process. Used to image, categorise and hence define and construct its subjects, these early photographs held immense power. As photographs enter public discourse, they not only describe, but prescribe identities of others. This series thinks reflexively on my positionality as a photographer working in visual anthropology.
